On April 26,1933, I was suspended by order of the Prussian Minister of Justice of March 31,1933. My attempt to be hired instead as a lawyer was rejected as early as May 3. Only three weeks later did the president of the court send me the questionnaire about ancestry and political activity. Not belonging to the group of Jewish participants in the war or their family members, which was still protected at that time, it was useless to even fill out the form and return it. Thus my final dismissal on grounds of the Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service of 7 April 1933 came in July. From this time on until our emigration several months later I was to remain unemployed.
